Ethical Legal and Regulatory Considerations
The biggest hurdle an electronic commerce business must overcome is customer distrust. Privacy is the main issue that deters potential customers from conducting business on the Internet, and customers who choose to support electronic businesses place their trust in the companies that have the ability to keep the customers’ information private.
“Consumer laws, policies, and practices limit fraudulent, misleading, and unfair commercial conduct. Such protections are indispensable in building consumer confidence and establishing a more balanced relationship between businesses and consumers in commercial transactions.” (http://www.oecd.org)
Web-based companies must consider legal, ethical, and regulatory concerns that customers’ behavior and ultimately their business’ bottom line. Regardless of your category within, you must be aware that the same laws and regulations that govern the operations of all “brick and mortar” businesses also apply to your e-commerce business.
Wishing you success.
